History

Haya Water was created in December 2002 with the objective to build and operate a world class water reuse system for the Muscat Governorate. It is a closed joint stock company owned by the Government of the Sultanate of Oman.

Originally operating as Oman Wastewater Services Company (SAOC) - the company changed its name to better reflect the enormous benefits this long-term infrastructure will bring to families, individuals and businesses across Muscat.

Haya is a word associated with life and greenery and comes from the Arabic word “Hayat” meaning life – and Haya itself means water, fertility or the lush vegetation that grows in the desert after rain.

We are very proud to be an Omani company and have already achieved Omanisation levels in excess of 76% that are growing year by year.

The Vision & Mission

Our vision is to enable Muscat to become one of the top cities in the world by building and operating a world class Water Reuse system that connects at least 80% of the residential properties by the year 2018 and brings enormous environmental benefits to the city.

Objectives

Haya Water’s project was established with a clear objective to generate the maximum amount of treated effluent – recycled waste water – to be used to benefit society.

In a desert environment with scarce natural water resources, it is imperative to maximise every water resource possible – which is why water reuse is at the very heart of Haya Water’s project in Muscat.

The end product of its reuse project is treated effluent – that is used to help sustain and create new green areas in Muscat with the opportunity for agricultural use in the future.

Our project means every home and business in the Muscat Governorate area will have their existing septic tank system replaced with a modern piped waste water system – bringing health benefits to all.

Haya Water is fully committed to its goal of “Making Muscat A Better City” – a modern, environmentally aware urban centre - that helps individuals, families and businesses enjoy a successful and prosperous future. We will achieve this by installing one of the most complex and advanced civil engineering projects ever constructed in Oman.
